「ハコスタジアム ライティング・バイブル」第1回 ハロウィン編

Hacostadium Lighting Bible, Vol. 1: Halloween Edition

On a certain day in October, Nissin Japan had the pleasure of visiting the cosplay amusement spaces "HACOSTADIUM OSAKA" and "HACOSTADIUM cosset Osaka Nipponbashi"!
For this feature, we conducted a photoshoot using Nissin strobes at Hacostadium, which offers a variety of shooting situations.
We will be introducing the photos we took and the techniques behind them in a series.
For our first installment, we are presenting photos taken at the [Halloween Limited Booth] set up in the 5F Church zone of "HACOSTADIUM OSAKA"!

Since it's Halloween, I've created a slightly horror-themed lighting setup.
The leaf shadows on the wall are the key to the horror effect!
By the way... here is what this set looks like without any flash lighting.
Because the lights are covered with orange filters, it's all orange! It's a cute, autumnal set.
You can change the color and mood with lighting, but I thought the warm atmosphere was wonderful, so I decided to keep the lighting warm as well.
Now, let's dive into the photography technique!
Photography TechniqueWe used four strobes for this shoot.
[Lighting Data]
(1) Di700 + ROGUE Grid (45°) Power: 1/32(2) Di700 Direct Power: 1/128
(3) i40 + Wide Panel + Red Color Filter Power: 1/4
(4) i40 + Wide Panel + Orange Color Filter Power: 1/16
(1) is pointed at the model's upper body like a spotlight.
(2) is aimed at the model's feet and the pumpkins on the left and right.
Regarding (3) and (4), where the strobes are not visible.
Some of you may have noticed...
I've hidden the i40s in the space behind the pumpkins!
This is a trick only possible because the i40 is so small.
For both (3) and (4), I aimed them upward so the light hits the back wall.
The leaf shadows appearing on the wall are thanks to these two lights.
By the way, you might wonder why the power for (4) is slightly lower than (3)...
It's because the spiderweb draped over the pumpkin was reflecting too much light and becoming pure white...
Color filters affect light intensity depending on their density, so be sure to test your shots and adjust accordingly!

The location for this shoot was the [Halloween Limited Booth] at "HACOSTADIUM OSAKA".
Hacostadium does not allow the use of wall outlets, so clip-on strobes are highly recommended for your shoot! They are small, so they won't add too much bulk and are convenient to carry around.
The [Halloween Limited Booth] is only available until November 3rd (Mon, Holiday), so be sure to visit soon!
