新マシンガンストロボ「MG10」紹介(外観・付属品編)

Introducing the New MG10 Machine Gun Strobe (Exterior & Accessories)

About a year after its development announcement, the new "MG10" machine-gun strobe was finally released on August 24th.
It initially launched as an Air10s set, available exclusively through our authorized dealers as a first-production limited edition.
Some of you may already have one in your hands, but we would like to take this opportunity to dive into what this completely new "MG10" strobe is all about.
First, let’s start with the product packaging. As expected for such a large strobe, the box is quite big.
The Di700A placed next to it for comparison looks so small in contrast. Now, let's open the box.
You can see the large case containing the strobe unit itself. The accessories are located underneath.
The kit's Air10s is in here. The black paper box contains the rest of the included accessories.
Here are the contents of the set.
In addition to the MG10 unit and Air10s, it includes two types of battery magazines (one for eight AA batteries, and one for 26650-type lithium-ion rechargeable batteries with protection circuits), a camera bracket, a ball head, a wide-angle panel, one amber color temperature conversion filter, and one filter mounting panel.
Two types of battery magazines are included: one that uses eight easily accessible AA batteries, and one that uses lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, which withstand longer usage times and offer slightly faster recycle times.
For the lithium-ion batteries, please select "26650-type with protection circuit," which can be purchased at online shops. Please do not use types without a protection circuit, as they are shorter and lack protection against potential overcurrents, making them dangerous.
At full power, you can get approximately 200 flashes with eight AA alkaline batteries, and about 600 flashes with 5,200mAh lithium-ion batteries.
The battery magazine is inserted from the bottom of the grip. Align the magazine with the white circle mark to ensure the correct orientation.
Also, since the bottom of the grip acts as the cover, there is no tripod screw hole in this area.
Pairing starts by holding down the "Open" button (labeled OPEN) while pressing and holding the power button.
Some of you might be wondering, if there is no tripod screw hole on the bottom, how do you attach it to a stand?
The MG10 is equipped with a screw hole on the side, which allows you to attach it to a stand in a "sideways" orientation.
By using the included ball head, you can freely adjust the angle and direction.
By combining it with a Nissin Power Pack (sold separately), you can achieve phenomenal, ultra-fast recycling of under one second even at full power.
The MG10 is mount-free and is not built with connectors specific to each manufacturer's original system. Since the MG10 uses a Sony-compatible terminal, you will need a "Sony cable" if you intend to use a power pack. If you only have cables for Canon, Nikon, or Pentax (discontinued), please purchase a Sony-compatible power pack cable as well.
This is the distinctive external zoom mechanism. It is linked by magnets, so it will not break even if it is bumped. As we will explain later, it can also be removed if necessary.
There are heat vents on the left and right of the main head, and a cooling fan is built inside. This ensures peace of mind even when shooting continuously at high power.
The camera mounting bracket can be attached to either the left or right side of the MG10 unit. It can also be used inverted by swapping the screws.
The bracket is lined with rubber to prevent slipping, and there is a tripod screw hole (1/4-20 UNC) underneath the camera fixing screw.
Regarding the characteristic external sliding zoom mechanism, removing the cover with the Fresnel lens reveals two flash tubes.
When you need to spread the light without directivity, such as when placing it in a softbox, this state provides a more beautiful, even light distribution. Additionally, there are four white LEDs on the left and right for modeling light.
Please note that this panel gets very hot, especially during continuous firing, so be careful not to touch it directly with your bare hands.
The case for storing the strobe itself is also quite large, but it includes side pockets, making it possible to store shooting accessories as well.
That concludes our main introduction to the appearance and accessories.
Next time, we will introduce the unique features that can only be used when the MG10 is paired with the Air10s. Please look forward to it.
