Five-sheet method – How to shoot the left side view
Left side view / Standing position when shooting

When taking the “left side view” of the five-sheet method, stand at the “9 o’clock” position when the patient’s head is defined as 12 o’clock. (Photo 17)
Prepare cheek retractor and mirror

Ask the patient to use the retractor only on the right side and bite.
Once you have a mirror for side view photography, tilt the headrest down and adjust the occlusal plane so that it is perpendicular to the ground.
This will allow the mirror to be inserted perpendicular to the ground, making it easier to compose. (Photo 18)
Insert mirror

When inserting the mirror into the patient’s oral cavity, proceed while paying attention to the following points.
First, insert the mirror’s reflective surface toward the palate as shown in Photo 19.
If you point it toward your tongue, the mirror may touch your tongue during the work, so if the mirror becomes dirty, you will not be able to shoot.
Then, while pressing the buccal mucosa with the side of the mirror, rotate it 90degree so that the reflective surface of the mirror faces the dentition.
With the non-reflective surface of the mirror lightly touching the buccal mucosa, bring it close enough so that it does not hit the dentition before engaging in occlusion.
Finally, cover each of the upper and lower lips with a mirror, parallel to and away from the dentition.
Have the patient loosen the retractor around this area and tilt the mirror to the buccal side.
Shooting the left side view

It’s time to shoot, but let’s ask the patient to turn a little to the right.
By doing this, the saliva accumulated in the oral cavity can flow to the right so that the saliva does not interfere with the shooting.

After confirming that the mirror shows from the front teeth to the last molars, hold the camera vertically and look into the viewfinder.
Again, the place to focus is number 6.
After focusing and locking, re-frame the image so that it shows the front teeth to the last molar, and press the shutter release to take the picture.
