"CP+" is a world-premiere show for cameras and photographic imaging. Nissin Japan exhibits a booth every year, conducting various projects such as exhibitions and stage seminars for our customers to enjoy. Among these, the "Strobe Spirits," who have become a regular fixture on our stage, have received requests for "more information," so we would like to introduce them!
What are the "Strobe Spirits"?
The "Strobe Spirits" are image characters that personify our main product, the strobe (flash). Starting with "Di700A-chan," who debuted at "CP+2015," a new Strobe Spirit appears whenever a new product is released, and there are currently three characters in total.
Di700A-chan
The first Strobe Spirit to appear at "CP+2015" is Di700A-chan. She is the spirit of the "Di700A," which had just been announced as a new product at the time. She is played by photographer Yuriko Omura. The character was designed with the image of a "fairy" or "magical girl." Featuring a fluffy skirt and a long cape, she has an aura as if she could cast magic on photos through lighting. The design is based on blue, the corporate logo color of Nissin Japan, and features a gold headband with a blue flower accent on the head, and a decorated mini-stand for strobes as an ornament on the ribbon at her chest. The Di700A, which serves as a staff as a light item, expresses the ability to use the strobe away from the camera using the NAS radio transmission system.
i60A-chan
The second Strobe Spirit to appear at "CP+2016" is i60A-chan. The base product is the "i60A." As the younger sister of Di700A-chan, she was designed with the image of a "fife and drum corps" that cheers on and supports strobe photography. She is played by photographer Ai Ehara, who was also responsible for the character design. The short cape and pleated skirt were designed to fit the image of a younger sister character. Shared points with Di700A-chan, such as gold accents and knee-high socks, express their sisterhood. She wears a hat with the "i" mark, the same as the i60A product logo. The light item is inspired by a fife and drum corps baton. To represent the power of having a high light output despite being small and lightweight, strobes are attached to both ends of the baton.
MG10-chan
The third Strobe Spirit to appear at "CP+2018" is MG10-chan. The product is the "MG10." As the spirit of the "Machine Gun Strobe," which features high heat resistance and high durability, the design is inspired by a powerful and tough "warrior." She is played by model Nozomi Inoue, who looked great in the outfit with her toned abs. The military-style costume befitting a "warrior," combined with black gloves and knee-high socks, gives her a powerful look. Her hair accessories and eye color are Nissin blue. The gold accents are a shared point with Di700A-chan and i60A-chan. Her light item was produced with the cooperation of Tokyo Marui, playing on the "machine gun" part of "Machine Gun Strobe." It is a truly impressive item!
Extra Edition
Since the birth of the Strobe Spirit Di700A-chan, other things have been created as well. First is the original Nissin short film "The Last Flash Fighter." It was produced based on an idea from photographer Irwin Wong, who was inspired after seeing Di700A-chan. The character "Flash Fighter Ryune," which the protagonist "Akira Hizuki" (played by actor Sayaka Kawaguchi) transforms into, is designed based on Di700A-chan. "Flash Fighter Ryune"
" The Last Flash Fighter" is currently available on the official Nissin Japan YouTube channel. It is a masterpiece featuring a star-studded cast including Kenichi Ukon from Gekidan☆Shinkansen and photographers Koichi Tamauchi and Koichi Isomura. Please take a look!
Next, we would like to introduce the free distributed booklet "Can you take beautiful photos when using an off-camera strobe!?" As a manga for those new to off-camera lighting, it is distributed for free at various events, the Nissin Japan Koenji headquarters, and Nissin product retailers. The story features Di700A-chan, the Strobe Spirit, appearing to give advice to "Ai-nee," a camera beginner who struggles with strobes. It explains lighting in an easy-to-understand way through manga along with sample photos taken by Ai Ehara (a.k.a. "Ai-nee"), and we have received a lot of feedback saying it is "very easy to understand!" "Can you take beautiful photos when using an off-camera strobe!?" is currently available online.
